Dear Colleagues
We would like to invite you to the launch of the book "Economics and Austerity in Europe: Gendered Impacts and Sustainable Alternatives" (eds. Hannah Bargawi, Giovanni Cozzi, Sue Himmelweit, Routledge) at the House of Lords, Comt Room G, on Wed 19 October 2016, 18:00 – 20:00, organized by Women's Budget Group.

Speakers:
Introductions:
Ms Zita Gurmai (Member of the European Parliament for the Hungarian Socialist Party)
Dr. Hannah Bargawi (SOAS, University of London)

Panel Discussion: Baroness Prosser OBE (CHAIR)
Ms Heather Wakefield (Head of Local Government, Police and Justice, UNISON)
Prof Sue Himmelweit (Open University)
Prof Ozlem Onaran (University of Greenwich)

With a combination of country case studies and cross-country empirical analysis, this book reveals the scope and channels through which women and men have been impacted by austerity policies in Europe, and goes on to offer readers the opportunity to assess the feasibility and implications of a feminist alternative to continued austerity.

The event will include a panel discussion to consider:

- How has the rhetoric surrounding austerity in the UK and Europe changed?
- Are we entering a post-austerity era?
- What are the implications of such changes for gender equality?
- What are the current challenges and opportunities for gender-sensitive policy-making?

A drinks reception, sponsored by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) will follow the panel and Q&A.
