With great sadness, PKES notes the death of Mark Hayes on 15 December 2019. Mark was Secretary of PKES (then PKSG) from 2006 until 2016. Mark was almost single-handedly responsible for maintaining PKES/PKSG activities during this period, and his commitment was essential for the survival of the organisation.
Mark held the St Hilda Chair in Catholic Social Thought and Practice at Durham University, as a Reader in the Department of Theology and Religion and the Business School, from 2014-2016. Before moving to Durham, Mark was a Fellow of Robinson College Cambridge.
Mark was an expert on the economics and ideas of Keynes, and continued to publish on this and other topics. His most recent book, 'John Maynard Keynes', was published by Polity Press in December 2019.
Mark was a friendly, warm and professional colleague. He will be greatly missed by the members of PKES and by the wider heterodox economics community.
